Dr. Jeffery Morgan, Texas Heart Institute/Baylor College of Medicine

Project Overview

The Brockman Medical Research Foundation has provided support for research being conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Morgan and his team at Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Heart Institute in Houston.

Dr. Morgan is Professor of Surgery, the Lester and Smith Chair of Surgery, and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Circulatory Support at Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Heart Institute at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.

The grant by the Brockman Medical Research Foundation supports research towards increasing the number of available hearts for heart transplantations by using organs from donors after circulatory death.

The objective of the research is to devise, test, and disseminate a safe, effective protocol whereby hearts can be removed from donors after circulatory death, preserved in an innovative fashion, and transplanted with positive results. The goal is to save thousands of lives, thereby, by increasing significantly the number of hearts available for transplantation.
