Dr. Rachel van de Weg
Director of Scholarships
Dr. Rachel van de Weg is the Director of Scholarships at the Brockman Foundation. Her main role is to oversee the strategy of the Brockman Scholarship as it undergoes expansion.
Dr. van de Weg worked in the catastrophe risk markets for 10 years, latterly at Renaissance Re of Bermuda as a data analyst for the International Property Catastrophe Risk Portfolio. She began her working life at Lloyd’s of London Catlin Syndicate where she spent 3 years as a member of the Marine Group.
She was awarded the McGill-Bermuda Scholarship for undergraduate study at McGill University in Montreal, Canada and the Commonwealth Scholarship to study for her MSc in Cultural Theory at Edinburgh University in Scotland. She was awarded the Faculty of Arts Premier Research Scholarship from Edinburgh University to complete her Doctorate in Benjamin, Schmitt and the Political and her work has been published in the Journal for Cultural and Religious Theory. She also holds a professional designation from the Chartered Insurance Institute of London.
Rachel has a love for free diving the reefs around Bermuda, is avid for surfing, and works on a voluntary basis as a data analyst for ‘Whales Bermuda’ – the organization cataloging the annual North Atlantic humpback whale migration. She is also a recent active member of the Bermuda Audubon Society.
